Legal
Terms and conditions
Sent with every written quote. Clause 1 is the important one on this route and it is deliberately first.
1. Our role, and its limits
Norway Removals is a removals contractor. We are not a customs agent, a customs broker, a tax adviser or a legal adviser, and nothing on our website, in a quote, or in correspondence constitutes customs, tax or legal advice.
We prepare inventories and packing to the standard a customs declaration requires and we liaise with your customs agent or freight forwarder. We do not make the declaration, we do not determine whether any relief applies to you, and we do not advise on duties, taxes or charges. Those are matters for the Norwegian customs authority, for a customs agent, or for your own adviser.
2. The declaration is yours
The import declaration is made in your name. You are responsible for the accuracy and completeness of the information declared, including the inventory, and you must satisfy yourself that it is correct before the consignment leaves.
We provide you with the full inventory in a readable form and will amend any error you identify before departure. Where a delay, inspection, penalty or charge arises from information you supplied that was inaccurate or incomplete, it is not our responsibility.
3. Quotes
A quote is based on the information you give us and on what we saw at survey. If the consignment is materially different on the day we will tell you what the difference costs before we continue rather than afterwards.
A written quote remains valid for thirty days from the date it is issued unless it says otherwise. Quotes exclude duties, taxes, customs charges, inspection costs, demurrage and any charge levied by an authority, all of which are payable by you.
4. Restricted goods
You must declare to us anything restricted before packing, including alcohol, tobacco, food, plants, seeds, medicines and animal products. We will separate those items and advise whether they can travel in the consignment.
We will not carry restricted goods that have not been properly declared, of any quantity. Where such goods are found during loading we will remove them, and where they are found after departure we will act on the instructions of the relevant authority.
5. Prohibited goods
We do not carry fuels, gas, solvents, thinners, paint in quantity, aerosols beyond ordinary personal amounts, fireworks or any other flammable, corrosive or pressurised goods; weapons or ammunition; controlled drugs; cash, bullion or negotiable instruments; perishable food; or living animals.
You warrant that nothing you present to us is something you are not lawfully entitled to export from the United Kingdom or import into Norway.
6. Vehicles
Vehicles are not carried as part of a household consignment and are not covered by any quote for one. Vehicle import to Norway is a separate procedure with its own declaration, registration and charges, and it is not something we arrange or advise on.
7. Transit and timing
Delivery windows for this route are indicative and depend on sailings, road conditions, seasonal restrictions and customs clearance, none of which are within our control. We will keep you informed and will not give you a firmer window than we believe to be real.
8. Storage
Where goods are held at either end, they are listed on an inventory you receive. Storage charges run from the date goods enter store and are billed in advance for each period. Goods are released against a cleared account.
9. Liability
We carry goods-in-transit and public liability insurance. Details, sums insured and exclusions are provided with your quote. We are not liable for damage to goods you packed yourself where the damage is attributable to that packing, for electrical or mechanical faults appearing after a move without external damage, for loss or damage arising from inspection by an authority, or for loss caused by anything outside our reasonable control.
10. Claims
Damage must be reported to us in writing within seven days of delivery, with photographs. Where goods have been in store, that period runs from delivery out of store.
11. Payment
Payment terms are set out in your quote. Where duties, taxes or authority charges fall due, they are payable by you directly or reimbursed to us where we have advanced them. Invoiced accounts are payable within fourteen days of the invoice date.
12. Complaints
Email hello@norwayremovals.co.uk. We will acknowledge your complaint and give you a named person dealing with it.
13. Law
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales and are subject to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of its courts. Nothing here affects your statutory rights as a consumer.
